Class Four consists of the Year five and Year six children and is taught by a full time teacher and a full time teaching assistant. We also benefit from a second teaching assistant who runs intervention sessions for some children. We are housed in the main school, in a spacious, well-equipped classroom. During the week, the children benefit from a wide range of activities, for example: we have music tuition from Shropshire Music Service; many are learning to play the clarinet and saxophone and at certain times of the year, children are taught by visiting sports teachers, such as county cricket coaches from the Chance to Shine programme. We follow a creative curriculum which covers topics including Extreme Earth, Fighting for Freedom, Sport and Adventure, Ancient Greece, What is Art? and What Makes Britain Great? Our Year Six children run the very popular ‘Brew with a View’ café once a month at Norbury Village Hall. They have also set up a monthly café at Stiperstones School. Through these cafés, children learn many practical skills including: communication; real life maths; communication with others and practical problem solving. All children in Class Four take part in transition activities with both Bishop’s Castle Community College and Mary Webb School and Science College. The annual STEAM (formerly STEM) event at Mary Webb is a favourite. Science ambassadors from Year ten visit our school, along with their Science teacher to deliver exciting science lessons to our children. Some Year Six children then get the opportunity to spend a day at Mary Webb with children from other local primary schools and a science specialist along with science specialists. Mrs Morris
