AUTUMN TERM

WEEKLY TIMETABLECLASS 4 LONG TERM PLANNINGCURRICULUM POLICIES

In class three, we have a mixed aged class (Years 5 and 6) where our children are in the final two years of Primary education before their next learning step and their transition to Year 7 and secondary school. We work closely together with our federated schools and local high schools, to provide a curriculum of rich learning opportunities and to prepare pupils for their transition and to give them life-long memories and experiences (including theatre trips, termly trips and annual residential visits).

During the week, the children benefit from a wide range of activities, for example: we have music tuition from Shropshire Music Service; many are learning to play the clarinet and saxophone and at certain times of the year, children are taught by visiting sports teachers, such as county cricket coaches from the Chance to Shine programme. We follow a creative curriculum which covers topics including Extreme Earth, Fighting for Freedom, Sport and Adventure, Ancient Greece, What is Art? and What Makes Britain Great?

At this upper end of Key Stage 2, the ethos is very much on developing a sense of independence and responsibility: we have high expectations of our children, particularly as role models for the rest of the school, but we also have high levels of enjoyment along the way!
